OUR HISTORY

  • Halau Na Pua Mai Ka Lani is our name. Translating into "The Many Different Flowers from Heaven."It is said that our last reigning Queen Lili'iuokalani favored the children, calling them the flowers (Na Pua) of Hawaii. It is from that saying, I named my Halau. Starting in June 2003, I had over 17 children attend my first class. Seing all their faces and different personalities confirmed what was already said about them.
  • To this day, I still have children, Keiki Kane and Kaikamahine, enrolled in this halau. I am proud of all my students, past, present, and thank them for allowing me to be their teacher of Hawaiian Dance and Culture.
  • I, myself have trained and/or attended classes under various Kumu Hula. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of their Halau, Kumu Hula Pua Mendiola, starting at the age of 6.
  • To Kamalei Sataraka, you have made me the fun loving "Ham" that I am.
  • To Sonny Ching, MAHALO for your love and understanding.
  • To Michael and James Dela Cruz for giving me the opportunities to be myself and allowing me to show off.
  • To Uncle Ray Froncesca, for teaching me what humility is and showing me how to be humble.
  • To Uncle Kimo Alama, Mahalo for allowing me to take your 'Olelo Hawai'i and for allowing me to Uniki, as an Olapa, under your direction.
  • And to all that I may have forgotten, please accept my heartfelt love and appreciation!
